Two of those members, David Riddle and Michael Wardian went under the 17 year old course record (5:46:22) that was set by Eric Clifton. David Riddle was the first to cross the line with a 5:40:45 with Michael Wardian not too far back in 5:43:24. On the women’s side Megan Arbogast finished 2nd with a 6:35:16. This ranks 4th on the all-time list at JFK and took about 85 minutes off of the 50 and over record!
Other Team USA members that competed were:
Andrew Henshaw – 11th place 6:22:48
Phillip McCarthy – 20th place 6:44:24

2011 50 Mile Road National Championship
Tussey Mountainback 50
The Tussey Mountainback 50 served as the host for the 2011 50 Mile Road National Championship on October 24. A strong men’s field, including defending champion Todd Braje, served to produce an exciting race. Michael Wardian of Arlington, VA used a strong second half of the race to pull ahead of the lead pack and win in a course record 5:33:46. Braje was second in 5:50:22, followed in third by Michael Arnstein of New York, NY in a time of 5:52:54.
Connie Gardner, 47, of Medina, OH led the women’s field with a winning time of 7:04:28. This was Gardner’s third national championship of the year after wins in the 100 Mile Trail National Championship (Burning River 100) and 24 Hour National Championship (North Coast 24). Behind Gardner were Jennifer Herbstritt of Princeton, NJ (7:58:33) and local runner Heather Hoechst of State College, PA (8:20:58)
