Max King named USATF Athlete of the Week Max King named USATF AOW after setting American record in Doha

INDIANAPOLIS — Max King earns USA Track & Field Athlete of the Week after claiming the International Association of Ultrarunners World 100 km Championships with a North American record in Doha, Qatar, Nov. 22.

King (Bend, Oregon) finished the evening’s ultra marathon in 6:27:43 for the title after taking the lead when the field broke up around the 50 km mark. King never looked back, averaging a 6:14 mile pace to break Tom Johnson’s 19-year-old North American record of 6:30:11.

“I guess I was going in (not knowing) how to run it or what I was coming up against,” he said. “I knew I was in pretty good shape, so I wanted to run a decent race and stay in the hun

Now in its 13th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
