The US Team will be competing at the 3rd IAU Trail World Championships, under the patronage of the IAAF, in Connemara, Ireland, on Saturday, July 9th 2011.
Athletes will cover a total distance of 71km that encompasses mountains, grassland trails, compacted gravel trails, loose rock trails, and open countryside, starting at the world famous Kylemore Abbey and finishing in the nearby village of Letterfrack. There will be an initial 1,450ft summit and two 2,350ft summits during race.
The 3rd IAU Trail World Championship will be both an individual and team competition. This is the first time there will be a team championship and team positions are decided on the basis of the cumulative time of the top three finishers.
The contingent was selected by the USATF Mountain, Ultra & Trail Running Council based on results from 2010 and resumes submitted by the athletes. For more information, please visit the International Association of Ultrarunners at http://www.iau-ultramarathon.org/
